In a recent blog, "What is the Role of a Support Coordinator?", I outlined the things an NDIS Support Coordinator will do for an NDIS participant.

As a Support Coordinator at THC, I sometimes get requests from NDIS participants who are outside of my local area and seeking support coordination services. While we of course help as many people as we can, I do want to point out the benefits of using an NDIS Support Coordinator who is local to where you live:

  1. Your local Support Coordinator will have in-depth knowledge of and experience with the best service providers within your local area.

  2. Your local Support Coordinator will be able to connect you to your local community so you can broaden your local circle of support.

  3. Your local Support Coordinator will be able to use your support coordination funding more efficiently because:

          • Less time (and therefore budget) is spent on researching the service providers in your local area; they already know the service providers local to their area and may not be familiar with ones near to you.

          • Face-to-face meetings or visits with local and known service providers are easier to organise.

          • Less time (and therefore budget) is spent on your Support Coordinator’s travel to and from service providers if they are local.
      •
