I’m often asked what an NDIS Support Coordinator does for NDIS Participants.

What is the role of the Support Coordinator? How is it different to (say) a Plan Manager? What are the benefits of using a Support Coordinator?

I thought we’d explore that today…

Our main goal as a Support Coordinator is to support our participants to achieve their NDIS goals.

Most NDIS Support Coordinators will do a face-to-face (or virtual) meeting to begin with. However, the majority of support coordination work is done behind the scenes: researching the best solution for your needs to meet your NDIS Plan Goals; contacting possible and engaged service providers; reporting to the NDIS; answering your questions; and making sure you are getting the absolute most out of your plan.

Here are some of the primary things an NDIS Support Coordinator does for NDIS Participants:

  1. Help you understand your NDIS Funded Supports

An NDIS Support Coordinator will work through your NDIS Plan with you to help you understand what Funded Supports are in your NDIS Plan and what they mean.

  2. Help you link to services

Your Support Coordinator will link you to suitable service providers, to help you reach the goals set out in your NDIS Plan. Services providers may be NDIS service providers, or they may be community and mainstream providers.

  3. Help with negotiation with service providers

When you’re deciding on which service providers are right for you, your Support Coordinator will help you negotiate with the providers about the services they can offer you and how much it will cost out of your NDIS Plan.

  4. Help you with service provider agreements

Your Support Coordinator will make sure you have the right agreements in place with your service provider or service providers, and that they match the agreed expectation.

  5. Service provider bookings

Once agreements are in place, your Support Coordinator will make sure your service bookings are made and everything is set to go.

  6. Help with NDIS Plan Reviews

When you’re due for an NDIS Plan Review, whether that’s because it’s due or because you believe your situation calls for a new NDIS Plan, your Support Coordinator will assist you in planning ahead so that you’re fully prepared for your NDIS Plan review.

  7. Iron out any confusion

Having a Support Coordinator will assist you navigate your way through the complex NDIS system and processes, and will help you stay on track towards achieving your NDIS Plan goals.
